Joe completed a 50 Week Furniture Design & Makers’ course
During this course students complete three projects, here are the three projects Joe completed in his time with us.
Carved box
Fascinated by different landscapes, Joe has been looking at Iceland in particular and has taken inspiration from skeiðarársandur river delta.
This box is made from valchromat and hand carved for the texture, it house four gentleman’s watches.
A bench in bog oak
Joe’s second project was a seat in solid bog oak cut to shape on the school’s CNC router. The legs are laminated bog oak veneer. Joe had the bronze parts made by a local engineering firm.
Hokkaido cabinet
Made in Japanese oak that was transported from Hokkaido port to Liverpool docks post WW2, the boards still had the stamps on them! Joe’s final project, an ambitious cabinet, has an outside that is shot-blasted then ebonised, whilst the inside is finished in white Osmo. The back panel is Japanese paper which is illuminated by an LED light panel.
