While Japanese style joinery can be extremely complicated there are occasions when simplicity and function come together to make the perfect form. Based on a traditional Japanese carpenters tool box this two day class combines a utilitarian approach to construction with an eye for Arts & Crafts detail. Using just hand tools you will learn to dimension stock accurately and efficiently and incorporate some basic joinery to construct a small tool or keepsake box. We recommend students are proficient at dovetailing before tackling the wedged through mortise and tenons for this project. Less experienced students can simplify their build by swapping over to traditional cut nails for construction. There is no advantage of one over the other, just simplicity.
